How to use fiber optic cleaver correctly?

Fiber optic cleaver is used to cut the optical fiber as thin as a hair, the cut fiber is still flat after hundreds of times magnification observation, can be fusion splicing use. So mastering the correct cutting method for the entire fiber optic fusion splicing project is extremely important.

Let's first understand what we need to pay attention to in the process of using fiber optic cleaver. First of all, fiber optic cleaver belongs to the precision machinery, can not withstand strong impact, so as not to affect the performance of the cleaver; Secondly, fiber optics and fiber optic debris is very thin, and the tip of the sharp, the use of fiber optic debris into the skin, eyes, so we have to use a special container to collect fiber optic debris; Finally, be sure not to touch the blade directly with your hands, and do not touch the blade when you are repairing it.

The specific operation of the fiber optic cleaver is as follows:

1. Open the large pressure plate and fixture cover, push the slider with the blade on the device to the side in front of you.

2. Strip the fiber coating layer with fiber stripping pliers, reserve the bare fiber length of 30-40mm, wrap the fiber with degreasing cotton or cotton paper dipped in alcohol, and then wipe the fiber clean. Wipe with degreasing cotton or cotton paper once, do not use the same degreasing cotton or cotton paper to wipe the second time, and pay attention to the use of alcohol with a purity greater than 99%.

3. After visually inspecting the edge of the optical fiber coating layer aligned with the appropriate scale on the cutter scale (10-16cm), place the optical fiber into the optical fiber guiding groove with the left hand, and require the bare optical fiber to be placed straight on the rubber pressure pad.

4. Close the fixture cover, the large pressure plate, push the slider with the blade, so that the blade cuts the lower surface of the optical fiber, and freely slide to the other side, cut off the optical fiber.

5. Hold the cutter with your left hand and open the large pressure plate with your right hand.

6. Pinch the optical fiber with your left hand and open the fixture cover with your right hand, carefully remove the optical fiber with the cut end face, and don't touch the neat optical fiber section and other items to affect its cleanliness.

When the cleaver has been used many times, the blades are dull and need to be replaced. Loosen the blade locking screw with a wrench and remove the locking screw and spacer; open the large platen, carefully clamp the blade on both sides with tweezers, gently lift the blade to remove it and put it in place; hold the new blade with tweezers, hold the blade flat, put it in from slightly above the blade shaft so that the hole in the blade falls into the shaft, use a cotton swab to hold it against the blade and rotate the blade; place the blade spacer in the corresponding position on the blade, screw on and tighten the locking screw.

A well-flattened fiber optic end face is conducive to the fusion splicing of the fiber and transmission of optical signals later. The fiber optic end face is actually connected to the other end face for continued optical transmission. Optical transmission from one substance to another will occur refraction, reflection, etc., if the end face is not flat, there are gaps at the butt joints, then in the optical transmission of the optical signal loss will be very large, but also on the optical signal interference distortion.
